Salem and Surrounding Areas

The Tokyo International University of America campus (TIUA) is located directly across from Willamette University, the oldest liberal arts college in the West. Willamette University is home to the Atkinson Graduate School of Management where many of the institute courses are taught. Downtown Salem is a short walk from the WU/Atkinson School, offering major department stores linked with skybridges, traditional and ethnic restaurants, coffeehouses and movie theaters.

Salem is home to many historic sites, ninety-six city parks, indoor and outdoor concerts featuring international performers, art and wine festivals, bike paths, running trails and the Oregon State Fair. Life in Salem is pleasant and only as fast-paced as you want it to be. This manageable pace and relaxed atmosphere enables you to focus your energies on success in your program.

Situated in Oregon's Willamette Valley, Salem is an hour's drive to the Cascade Mountain wilderness, the wide, sandy beaches of the Pacific Coast, or the metropolitan city of Portland. You will find pleasure in the region's beautiful natural environment and close opportunities for big-city excitement.

An extraordinary variety of activities await Salem's visitors. Students don't live by classes alone - there is perhaps no environment better than Salem and Oregon to prove that point!

Campus Environment and Facilities
The TIUA/WU/Atkinson campuses provide the most up-to-date equipment and technology to support student research and study, a beautiful campus and an exciting atmosphere that enhances academic pursuits and provides great social interaction.
Willamette University and TIUA have all the amenities of major, modern universities, and, as an OIMI Program participant, you will have access to all of them. These include the university library and media center, multiple computer labs, state-of-the-art fitness center, an Olympic-size swimming pool and an outdoor swimming pool, and lighted tennis courts.
