Cultural Exchange

Exchange programs with the Community

Tomodachi "Friendship" Program

One or two TIUA students are matched with a family for one academic year (April-December). It is a friendship program, not a homestay program. The family and student(s) should plan to meet at least once a month for an activity, such as dinner in the family's home, attending a school, community, musical, or sports event, to go shopping or on a picnic. The student and family, through their friendship, will have an opportunity to share their cultures with each other.

J.A.C.E. (Japanese & American Cultural Exchange) Program

TIUA students visit and share Japanese culture with school children, retired people, and civic organizations throughout the local community.  In addition, they also learn something from people in the community about American culture.  It is a great chance to understand America outside of a college campus experience.
For more information about the J.A.C.E. program please call the TIUA staff J.A.C.E. coordinator at 503 373-3313
