Students study English and American culture

The program is divided into three semesters: Spring, Summer, and Fall. The classes are taught in English by TIUA and Willamette University faculty.

Spring semester (February ~ early-May) is the time to strengthen students' basic English skills. In addition to listening and speaking, students learn academic reading and writing as well as grammar.

In Summer semester (mid-May ~ early-July), based on the English skills that are developed during the Spring semester, students take elective courses taught by Willamette and TIUA faculty. Each elective course is accompanied by an applied English course taught by TIUA English faculty. In the applied English courses, students learn specific vocabularies and develop other academic skills needed in the elective courses. Therefore, even if students do not have confidence in their English ability, they can succeed in the elective course.

Fall semester (late-August ~ mid-December) overlaps with Willamette's Fall semester, and TIUA students can fully enjoy their life at Willamette University. Based on their academic and English skills, students can take regular courses at Willamette University (some courses have limited enrollment) in addition to TIUA English and elective courses. Many students take activity courses such as sports or music at Willamette.

Faculty members at TIUA and Willamette University welcome students who may not have confidence in their English ability as long as they are motivated to study.
